The season of love is here! ❤️
Just like any other commercialised celebration, it can be quite expensive which doesn’t always fit with students’ budgets. However, there are plenty of affordable ways to spread the love: whether it’s with a partner, a friend or yourself (don’t forget self-love is just as important!) Here are some ways to spread the love as a university student this February.
Handmade cards
Yes, you can buy cards from the high-street shops, however, you can also make your own personalised cards for a loved one. They can be simply crafted, or if you’re a keen crafter like me, then go the extra mile and show off your creativity! There are plenty of resources online to aid you in making handmade cards. Not only can this be more affordable, but it also adds a nice, personalised touch to whoever receives it.
Movie night
There are loads of new films coming out in time for Valentines Day for you to watch with a loved one in the cinema. Watching a movie is a perfect way to celebrate the season of love, especially when your favourite snacks are involved! If you do go to the cinema, make sure to use your student discount. Alternatively, you can have an enjoyable movie night in, with your cosy pyjamas on, snacks readily available, watching your favourite movie.
Students’ Union activities
Why not make use of your Students’ Union activities, whether it is with a partner, friend or by yourself? The University of Leicester are hosting a range of themed events, including: canvas painting, brunch, crafts, movie night and more. De Montfort University also has a variety of non-themed events, that are still perfect for a fun activity.
Dinner
The city of Leicester is home to hundreds of different restaurants ranging from gastropub to fine dining. There’s a restaurant for everyone! Whether it’s a romantic meal with a partner, a dinner out with a group of friends or a simple treat yourself meal by yourself, it’s a perfect way to celebrate the season of love. Also, don’t forget your student ID as many restaurants accept student discount – every little saving helps! If going out for a meal isn’t your thing, then make a nice meal at home with a loved one.
