I know, I know. Christmas is over. It’s sad, I know. The streets have lost their sparkle and your room has lost its excitement. It’s completely understandable if you’ve entered the new year feeling a little apprehensive about what may be coming in term 2.
You’re not alone. We all feel it. No one likes having to cut back on time with their loved ones or stop eating an unhealthy amount of chocolate and other sweet treats. I know I sure don’t.
However, there is no need to worry. We are not here to wallow together, but instead look forward to what will be an exciting year and look at how you can beat your Christmas blues.
For starters, you get to reconnect with your uni friends. A night in your flat where you all tell each other about how you’ve spent their time off is a great way to reminisce and remind yourself that just because you may be far from your family that there are still people you can connect with.
Or you may feel more adventurous. What better way to start the year than throwing yourself into a new society? It’s a great way to step out of your comfort zone, meet some new people and have some fun while doing so. There are many societies on offer for most hobbies you may enjoy doing.
The city of Leicester also has ways of getting you to look forward to the new year. The Leicester Comedy Festival is fast approaching where you may be able to discover the next big comedic genius, who will dominate your TV screens for the coming year. If you want to see something really funny however, I recommend getting yourself a ticket to watch Leicester City FC play at the King Power Stadium.
The most important thing to remember is to relax. Things may start to ramp up at uni with deadlines and exams approaching, but just remember you have friends and support networks who are here to help you, as well as many events coming up for you to enjoy.
You’ll soon be back in your uni routine, looking forward to a big summer break and, maybe for some of you, graduation.

Good luck for the new term ahead!
