New Walk

Postcode area: LE1

The New Walk area of Leicester combines beautiful and rare Georgian architecture. It is a very small area but is bursting with character. It was once described by a resident in 1840 as “the only solely respectable street in Leicester”. The most noticeable building on New Walk is the New Walk Museum and Art Gallery. This beautiful columned building houses exhibits such as dinosaurs and fossils, Ancient Egyptian artefacts, and an interactive play zone for the children. They also have a brilliant café and gift shop.

New Walk provides a pleasant walk from UoL to the city centre. Also at the city centre end there is access to the Kings Head pub which is actually on Kings street.
