We are right in the middle of the annual Leicester Comedy Festival. This landmark event has established itself as one the country’s leading celebrations of the gag, pun, one liner, funny story, prank, antic, bit of buffoonery and joke.
And you still have time to book tickets and see not only some of the biggest names in comedy, but also to catch the rising stars and newer acts, right on your doorstep.
The Festival is a real jewel in Leicester’s cultural crown and is an amazing story of success. Starting in 1994 with 40 events, at 23 venues, over 7 days with an audience of 5000, by 2018 it had grown to 47 events, across 69 venues, over 19 days with in excess of 85,000 tickets sold. And that doesn’t include those who turned up to free shows. This year’s numbers promise to be even bigger. Leicester obviously likes to have a laugh.
There are 10 days to go of this year’s Festival and you still have time to see the likes of Hal Cruttenden, Angela Barnes, Matt Forde, Vikki Stone, Mark Watson, Shappi Khorsandi and Dane Baptiste, plus a host of other funny acts and performers before the final day of the Festival on February 24.
