Is it too early to book a room for next year?

You may be considering your options for your accommodation next year, with Christmas coming up. Looking for a student house can be a very exciting time, especially if it’s your first time experiencing this, but it is important that you find the right accommodation for you. There is no rush as there will be properties available, just don’t leave it too late.

How to look for properties

Sulets offer a wide variety of student homes in Leicester for both De Montfort University and Uni of Leicester students – varying from one bed to eight bed homes.

You can easily search for suitable properties here. You can select your university, number of bedrooms, maximum price, distance from university and other options. Alternatively, you can visit Sulets at De Montfort Students Union, call them on 0116 467 0315 or email them at enquiries@sulets.com.

Do viewings of several different housing options to decide which one is best for you, and remember that once you sign the tenancy agreement, you are legally liable for the rent

Tenancy Agreement

Signing a tenancy agreement for the first time can be daunting and confusing. Before paying any money for the property or signing the contract, you should be able to read the agreement through for at least 24 hours. During this time, I would recommend getting advice from family members, staff at your university and the letting agent – they are there to help!

Deciding who to live with

Deciding who to live with can be tough but it is an important decision to make. The biggest thing to do is not rush. You could choose to live with your friends, the flatmates you already live with (if you get along with them), some of your course mates, or you could live by yourself. Don’t get peer pressured into living with someone as you will more than likely regret it once you do live with them.

Arguments happen, people may drop out of university, stuff happens which can lead to regret in September when its time to move in with the other tenants. So, take your time and be as sure as you can that you want to live with the people you choose.
