Sharing the Sulets approach
Sulets was established with the aim of improving student housing in Leicester. We are a unique company, a lettings agency, set up as an educational charity with a Board made up of the two Universities, the Students’ Unions and external trustees. Our mission is:
To raise standards in accommodation for the students of Leicester. To be honest, transparent and fair in our actions and to enhance the student experience.
We rent approximately 2500 beds per year through a mixture of halls of residence and private housing.
We are regularly asked by other Student Unions and Universities, how we setup up Sulets, how we operate and how to build an ethical lettings operation with students at the heart of the company. We are now offering a programme to deliver advice and training to Student Unions, Universities and non-profits looking to setup, operate or grow a lettings agency to help deliver best practice through a series of webinars and deep-dive site visits to our operation in Leicester.
Agenda
Operating a lettings agency can be a positive way to have a real impact on student wellbeing at your University. Sulets was launched in 2012 to help improve the student experience for student renters in Leicester as we were unhappy about the levels of service students were receiving as well as the usual complaints about deposits not being returned and high fees. Since then it has grown into an operator which houses over 2500 students per year through a mixture of purpose built halls and regular HMO type houses.
Who is this for?
Universities, Student Unions and not-for-profit groups who want to explore how to open a lettings agency which can benefit your students or disadvantaged groups. This is an introductory webinar which will look at why you would want to open your own agency, key things to consider and how to get started.
