Christmas is fast approaching; we recently had some snow and it’s definitely getting colder! A lot of students enjoy the festive season whilst at university, there are many affordable ways to celebrate Christmas as a student. Here are a few suggestions.

Decorate your student house

A little Christmas tree, tinsel, baubles and some fairy lights can instantly make your student house feel festive. You don’t have to spend a fortune on decorations, especially as shops such as: B&M, Home Bargains and more have a great range of products. If you are unsure on how to decorate without damaging your property and risking the loss of your security deposit, you can visit Sulets at De Montfort Students Union, call them on 0116 467 0315 or email them at enquiries@sulets.com.

Secret Santa

Buying everyone a Christmas present can become very expensive. A simple and affordable solution to this is organising a Secret Santa amongst your friends. Write all your names on a piece of paper, put them into a bowl or hat and blindly pick a name. Set   budget of £10-15 maximum and away you go!

Christmas baking

Nothing beats the sweet smell of fresh baked cakes and biscuits during the winter season. You don’t have to be Mary Berry to enjoy some festive baking as a student – if you are then good on you! TikTok is a perfect place to find simple, cheap and easy recipes from cookies to gingerbread to even a homemade Christmas pudding. This is also a great activity to do with your housemates and friends.

Christmas events in Leicester

Leicester has plenty of events and activities to do during the festive season as a student. Leicester’s annual ice rink will be returning from Thursday 5th December and Sunday 5th January in Jubilee Square – tickets are £7 each, if you book online.

Also in Jubilee Square is the returning 35m-high Wheel of Light that illuminates the city while providing riders with beautiful views of the surrounding areas.

This year, a brand-new Christmas Market is in Leicester city centre along Gallowtree Gate. The market will be open until December 29th with several festive stalls with treats, gifts and Christmas cuisine.
