A Different Approach...

A lettings agency owned and jointly run by YOUR Students’ Unions. Launched in September 2011, SULETs is a joint venture between DSU and LUSU, combining the lettings agencies previously known as DSU Lettings and Leicester Abode.

Backed by staff with years of experience in private sector lettings, SULETS was established with the aim of being different to all the other lettings agencies in Leicester and gaining significant control over the students letting to ensure that we can continue to raise standards in the service and quality of property that we offer to students.

   

No Agency Fees

SULETS is the only major lettings agency in Leicester that charges no agency fees to students on standard tenancies. Fees of £50-£150 per person are charged by most other agents just to sign the tenancy and there are often further charges for guarantor checks.

Security

SULETS is jointly owned and run by your Students’ Unions, organisations with real financial and business strength. DSU and LUSU run bars, shops, catering outlets and nightclubs as well as delivering numerous non-commercial activities.

In line with industry best practice, your rent is held in a separate client account for payment to your landlord and your deposits are held by the Government approved Deposit Protection Scheme. Unlike some, we don’t need your rent to pay our wage bills. Your money and deposit is safe in our hands and to help you get your deposits back we provide an independent third party inventory for each let to ensure only fair deductions are made at the end of the tenancy.

Trust

We know that students trust us to provide quality services so we hope that our lettings service will be a natural place for you to search for your next house. In a recent survey of over 570 students, over 94% said they were either ‘likely’ or ‘very likely’ to use our service. When asked, “Do you think the service will be professional” over 97% either ‘agreed’ or ‘strongly agreed’ with the statement.

Honesty

We use a simple contract with easy to understand terms. We absolutely encourage you to take the contract away to read or get it checked out by DSU’s independent Welfare & Education Centre or if you are studying at Leicester University, try the Welfare Department based in the Percy Gee Building. Unlike some agencies, we won’t ask for a deposit before you can get a copy of the contract. To ensure complete transparency our contracts are all available to view on our website and copies are sent to guarantors prior to signing.
